BLURB:
Simone Levin had a dream job as a safari pilot until an unexpected pregnancy clipped her wings. Tired of juggling motherhood with her demanding flight schedule, Simone applies for an office job, unaware that her new boss is Carlo Carlevaro, the man who’d ditched her before finding out he’d knocked her up.

Carlo returns to East Africa only to kill another fire—Ivory trafficking from his lodges threatens to destroy his company. Finding Simone back on the payroll comes as a pleasant surprise. As his employee, Simone is off-limits, but she is the only one he trusts to help with his undercover investigation.

With time running out, Simone and Carlo strive to expose the trafficking ring, but working together rekindles their mutual desire. When Simone is implicated as a trafficker, revealing her daughter’s existence to Carlo seems inevitable. Acting on her instincts might come too late as the syndicate retaliate and hone in their threat. Will they survive to give their love a chance?

She glanced at him but had to look away from the intensity of his eyes, which held her with such dearness that she knew he’d spoken of her. Inwardly she trembled, her murmur of need escalating to an oscillating quake.

“Simone, there’s something you’re not telling me. If you are in trouble, please–”

She extracted her fingers from his, but he cupped her elbow in his hand. She felt like crying, but the only sound that slipped out was a strangled choke as she jerked away from him. “I’m in no trouble, thank you.” Four years too late for that one.

She wanted to laugh but it hurt too much. She had to phone her mom, but it would only be to confirm her suspicions. Her mother had never passed on the message that Carlo had phoned. Her eyes misted over and she had to blink, looking away. “I just wish someone could show me where I’m to sleep tonight.”

With me. He didn’t say the words, but they hung between them, heavy and drenched.

She curled her fingers into her palms, her nails cutting into her skin. Any physical pain that would stop her from showing him where it truly ached. “It’s such a fine bloody line, Carlo. Please understand.” She swallowed the last words, biting hard on her lip to transfer the pain that had settled underneath her heart.

4 out of 5 (very good)

4 years ago,Simone and Carlo had 6 glorious weeks together. Then Carlo disappeared, leaving Simone pregnant. Now Carlo is back, as her boss and he's trying to find out who is using his flights for the poaching of ivory. When Simone is implicated, she has to reveal his daughter to him. Can they survive just what is happening around them, between them?

I did not know, going into this book, that Karlson is a first time author. I did not,at all, get that impression while I was reading it either!

Karlson spins a great tale!

It's not overly explicit, not is it particularly violent. It does get a little . . . . . .yukkie. . ..when Simone's friend is describing her "gifts" though. Also, it's quite painful reading about Simone and Carlo's trip to the poaching sites. Only because it truly is awful, the poaching.

I did not get who was part of the poaching ring, and I was surprised how that all went down. I sort of expected something else to happen, I was waiting for that something else, to see how Simone would deal with it,before she revealed his daughter to Carlo, but that doesn't happen, so I was a little . . . . .not disappointed, cos I really enjoyed what did happen here, but I can't find the right word word, and you know how that pains me so!

It's told from both Simone and Carlo 's point of view, in the third person. It's WELL told, well defined and well delivered. I read it in one single sitting.

So why not 5 stars? No idea, but I have 4stars attend of my fingertips while typing this up, so. . . .

4 solid first time stars.

Can you describe your dream home?
Something that cleans itself, situated a forest-like setting. I love trees and love to have a green prospect. Note forest: it’s wild and can look after itself. I’m terrible at gardening.

If we were to come to your house for a meal, what would you give us to eat?
I once had an excel spreadsheet listing people who had dinner at our house, to make sure I never served them the same thing twice. I like cooking for guests, but don’t get too elaborate. I tend to adjust recipes as I go along which can have some disastrous effects. My fool-proofs are lasagna, mussels with garlic and white wine and Pavlova.

Tell us about the absolute BEST fan letter you have received.
It was rather a call from my friend Allison, who raved for about ten minutes about my erotic romance (The Paris Apartment, to be released towards September 2018) which she beta-read for me. I wish I recorded it to soothe my ego during tough times of doubt and despair.

Say your publisher has offered to fly you anywhere in the world to do research on an upcoming book, where would you most likely want to go?
The USA. I’d love to go and observe small town life and do some hiking and horse riding in the Rockies. That sounds like plenty of book fodder to me!

Who designed the book cover for the book you are touring?
I simply love my cover. The couple has just the perfect amount of hesitation and doubt that the story consists of. Debbie Taylor designed my cover. http://www.dcagraphics.com/
