RETRO REVIEW TOUR & #GIVEAWAY - Changing Plans (Changing Plans #1-3) by L.A. Witt

Audio Buy Links: Audible US | Audible UK

Length: 8hrs 2mins/77,500 words approx.

Narrated By: Charlie David

From EPIC Award winning author and multiple Lambda Finalist L.A. Witt comes the re-release of three hot contemporary novellas -- Getting off the Ground, Infinity Pools, and On The List.

After being stood up at the altar, compulsive over-planner Elliott Chandler decides to turn his honeymoon on Oahu into a vacation for one. Fate puts a hitch in his plans, however, when the airport is snowed in and his flight is delayed.

In the terminal, the jilted groom catches the eye of another stranded traveler: the laidback and very sexy Derek Windsor. Derek breaks the ice and strikes up a conversation, and as the temperature drops outside, the heat between them rises. Pity they’re both going to different islands, but if their flight doesn’t get off the ground fast, Mr. Calm-and-Cool may just tempt Mr. Play-It-Safe into doing something reckless.

And that plane isn’t going anywhere any time soon…

5 out of 5 (exceptional)

Changing Plans is separated into three different parts - the first two from Elliot's point of view, and the last one from Derek's. We find out that Elliot has been jilted at the altar but decides to use his honeymoon ticket to Hawaii anyway. Due to the weather though, the planes are stranded, and whilst waiting, he meets Derek - the epitome of a playboy who admits to never having long relationships. What happens between them both though, catches them by surprise.

This is a sweet, low-angst book that is also full of steam! I found myself rooting for the two MCs from the word go. Although the idea of meeting your other half at the airport may sound a bit far-fetched (this is fiction after all!), L.A. Witt brings this story to life, with brilliant characters and situations, plus with gorgeous descriptions of Hawaii.

An amazing story, told exceedingly well, I have no hesitation in recommending this amazing book. Thoroughly loved every word.

Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…

Chase Hansen. Broke. College drop out. Male stripper.

My life wasn't at all what I imagined it would be. I should have been finishing up college, interning with a well-respected business, partying with my friends. But instead, I was raising my seventeen year old brother, struggling to make ends meet. Love wasn't even on my radar. Besides, what did I have to offer? A few crumpled singles pulled from my G-string? Defeated and exhausted, I knew I had zero chance of finding someone to love me just as I am.

Noah Carpenter. Angry. Betrayed. Doctor.

Just when I thought my life was going exactly as it should, everything turned upside down. With my final rotation in medical school complete, I finally achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. What I never expected was to catch the man of my dreams in our bed with the man of his. Beyond infuriated, I struggled to piece together the remnants of my life. Just when I'd decided to give up on love altogether, I found a man who loved me just as I am.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I thought I was getting over the first person/multi point of view thing, you know, but it appears that I still prefer to LISTEN to first person books than READ them.

That said, I enjoyed this, mostly. It's not a difficult, complicated read. It's quite emotional in places, Chase has to deal with the aftermath of his parents death, bringing up his younger brother in the best way he can. Noah is dealing with the aftermath of that too, but in a very different way. It's sexy in places, and inspiring in other, Chase's brother has a wise head on his 17 year shoulders.

It just didn't blow me away. It was a nice book, that is the best word I can come with, and ya'll know how much I hate using the N word!

It's told from both men's point of view, and the story flows well.

I just didn't love it.

3 good stars

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream.
Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.

Cora studied Naa’il. “May I ask you a personal question?”

“That depends on the question.” Naa’il’s posture stiffened.

“Do you love your second wife?”

“Yes,” Naa’il said without hesitation.

“Don’t you owe it to her to investigate whether or not she was telling the truth?”

“I know what I saw. Our laws are clear, Cora. Samina must be punished,” Naa’il said bitterly.

“Then I suppose that I should be put to death too.”

“This is different,” Naa’il snapped.

“Why? We are not related, yet we are alone. We have even shared a bed.”

“You are my slave; you must obey me.”

“I see.” Cora grimaced. “Regarding your wife, permit me to give you something to ponder.”

“Continue.” Naa’il flicked his hand in the air.

“Why do you post a guard outside your wife’s door?”

“He is there to protect her.”

“Precisely. When a soldier hears a scream from the person that he is assigned to protect, he is not going to hesitate to ascertain why, for he fears that delaying, even for a moment, may kill her. Likewise, when a woman is frightened, she is not going to delay her scream long enough to cover herself, especially if an intruder is attacking her. My point is Your Excellency, if you love your wife, love her enough to try to confirm her story. If she is truly innocent, then perhaps she and her guard deserve mercy.”

An Interview with a Portuguese Book Blogger
By
Josanna Thompson

One of the best parts about sharing A Maiden's Honor with the world, is interacting with the readers. I love when they contact me, and I will gladly give up my secrets about this story. That’s what happened when a Portuguese blogger contacted me last January about reading and blogging about A Maiden’s Honor. I was intrigued and thrilled that someone had discovered my book in Europe. Madalena was so excited about reading my book. How could I say no? So, I wrapped and sent a copy of A Maiden’s Honor to her. I had given numerous copies of my book to reviewers. I had never heard a peep from them. Madalena, on the other hand, kept in touch as she read A Maiden’s Honor. I answered her questions and fed her a steady stream of backstory information. She shared her thoughts as she read through the different sections. The result was an extra special experience for the both of us. I thought it would be fun to share her experience with you.

Josanna: Tell us a little about yourself?  How did you get started blogging?
Madalena: Hey! I’m Madalena, 19, I’m from Portugal and books are my passion.

For as long as I can remember, books were always a part of my life. Around the age of 14, I found out about Booktube, people making videos about books fascinated me and I could spent hours watching it. I was so interested in the fact that there was a community on YouTube about books, and that there were people that actually cared, people like me. So I decided to create a blog. At the beginning it was just a few words about the book but, with time, I started loving to write about my thoughts on a certain story and, later, I created my (bookish) Instagram that helped me connect with readers all around the world and made me start to translate my reviews to English. And that is the story about how I started blogging - first in Portuguese, now in Portuguese and English. It’s something I love and hope to do for as long as possible.

Josanna: There are thousands of books to choose from, what drew you to A Maiden's Honor?
Madalena: I was searching authors with books that would catch my attention. The title, “A Maiden’s Honor”, was the first thing that drew me to the book, it is different and I was curious. When I saw the synopsis, I knew I had to read it, it sounded amazing - and it is.

Josanna: Sharing A Maiden's Honor with you was extra special for me because we kept in touch while you read it. What was your experience like interacting with me?
Madalena: Amazing. Reading such a complex book is not always easy, however, while I was reading it, I was able to know how everything was created and how the author felt about the characters and the things that were happening. The book itself is absolutely out of this world, but being able to share this experience with such an incredible person was even better.

Josanna: Who were your favorite characters and why?
Madalena: That’s a hard question… I would say… 55% Cora, 45% Sarah. Sarah is an amazing character, she was different and strong. But Cora… she was just amazing. Everything she went through, and the reasons why, made her an extraordinary character to me.

Josanna: Did A Maiden's Honor live up to your expectations?
Madalena: Absolutely. This is a genre that I love, but it tends to drag. So, I was expecting a great book (trust me, my expectations were high) but with some moments dragging. Spoiler alert: It did not! A Maiden’s Honor is a piece of art. Everything is written in such a beautiful way, the story is action-packed and the characters are so different. A Maiden’s Honor was everything I was expecting, and more.

Josanna: Your final thoughts on A Maiden's Honor, i.e. do you recommend it?
Madalena: YES. YES. YES. ABSOLUTELY YES. One of the best books I’ve read ever.

Isn’t Madalena delightful? Her blogs are lots of fun to read. You guys, she writes in English AND Portuguese!  Click on the link below to read her blogs. I also included Madalena’s review of A Maiden’s Honor. Madalena is also very active on Instagram.

BLURB

High school seniors Cady LaBrie and Cooper Murphy have yet to set one toe out of line—they’ve never stayed out all night or snuck into a movie, never gotten drunk or gone skinny-dipping. But they have each other, forty-eight hours before graduation, and a Weekend Bucket List.

There’s a lot riding on this one weekend, especially since Cady and Cooper have yet to admit, much less resolve, their confounding feelings for one another—feelings that prove even more difficult to discern when genial high school dropout Eli Stanley joins their epic adventure. But as the trio ticks through their bucket list, the questions they face shift toward something new: Must friendship play second fiddle to romance? Or can it be the ultimate prize?

Purchase: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Interlude Press

SKINNY-DIPPING_

EXCERPT

She acts as if this was my big idea, but The Weekend Bucket List has got Cady LaBrie’s name written all over it. She’s persuasive, though—the girl has almost got me believing I came up with the idea to do everything we never did that “normal” kids do in high school, all in the forty-eight hours before graduation. We have a lot of lost time to make up for.

“These fries are so good.” Cady’s eyes are closed like she’s in goddamned ecstasy. I’m not sure why, but I look away.

“How can you eat so freaking much and stay so freaking skinny?” I ask, as Cady starts in on her second large order of french fries. And these are just appetizers.

“I’m petite, Cooper. Not skinny... and you’re skinny, too.”

I shrug and suck futilely on the straw that stands straight in my vanilla shake.

“Whatever.” It doesn’t matter how thick the shake is; I’m in no rush to suck it down. Cady’s the talker in this relationship, so all I’ve got to do is sit here and listen.

About the Author

Mia Kerick is the mother of four exceptional children—a daughter in law school, another in dance school, a third studying at Mia’s alma mater, Boston College, and her lone son still in high school. She writes LGBTQ romance when not editing National Honor Society essays, offering opinions on college and law school applications, helping to create dance bios, and reviewing English papers. Her husband of twenty-four years has been told by many that he has the patience of Job, but don’t ask Mia about this, as it is a sensitive subject.

MiaMia focuses her stories on emotional growth in turbulent relationships. As she has a great affinity for the tortured hero, there is, at minimum, one in each book. As a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with tales of said tortured heroes (most of whom happened to strongly resemble lead vocalists of 1980s big-hair bands) and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She is thankful to Dreamspinner Press and Harmony Ink Press for providing alternate places to stash her stories.

Her books have won a Best YA Lesbian Rainbow Award, a Reader Views’ Book by Book Publicity Literary Award, the Jack Eadon Award for Best Book in Contemporary Drama, an Indie Fab Award, and a Royal Dragonfly Award for Cultural Diversity, among other awards.

Mia is a Progressive, a little bit too obsessed by politics, and cheers for each and every victory in the name of human rights. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.

Contact Mia at miakerick@gmail.com. Visit her website for updates on what is going on in Mia’s world, rants, music, parties, and pictures, and maybe even a little bit of inspiration.

REVIEW TOUR & #GIVEAWAY - Dark Desires (Pure Ones #3) by Aja James

GENRE

Paranormal, Fantasy, Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Ryu Takamura is the Dark Ones’ Assassin. He has never missed his target…until now. Until her.
Ava Monroe is a talented geneticist who holds the key to the vampire race’s future…and perhaps her own as well.
Their attraction is explosive from the first. She would do anything to have him. He would sacrifice all to protect her.
But will their love triumph over seemingly impossible odds as they battle enemies new and old? Especially the demons from Ryu’s past? And deep within his heart?
Pa Ava’s breath froze in her lungs even as her heart pumped like a jack hammer. She stared owl-eyed and motionless into hypnotic dark brown eyes, so dark the pupils and irises were all but indistinguishable.
He held her gaze and slowly, nonchalantly pulled back his hand, leaving a trail of sparks along her skin where his fingertips grazed. A corner of his mouth tilted, whether in amusement or derision she couldn’t tell.
She did not see that hand fist so tightly on his thigh the knuckles turned white.
“Apologies,” he said. She assumed he referred to the accidental touch that set her veins on fire. “Allow me to help you.”
What? Was he going to help her relieve the dark desires that were melting her into a gelatinous mass of wantonness?
Keeping his gaze locked on hers, he gestured to the leg rest. Ava’s eyeballs were the only things that moved as they rolled to the right and down.
Oh that.
Before she provided a response, and perhaps it was better that he didn’t wait, because he would have waited a very long time, he elongated his torso by half standing, reached over the partition and smoothly removed the laptop bag that she had unwittingly jammed between the extended foot rest and the inner corner of her sleep capsule.
“May I?” he asked rather unnecessarily, since she hadn’t yet drawn breath or found her voice, and pressed the recline key so that her seat finally adjusted into a comfortable position.
Involuntarily, Ava heaved a contented sigh. Finally, her lungs were functioning again. Now that she had the opportunity to look him full in the face, she decided he wasn’t as irresistible as she first thought.
4 out of 5 (very good)
Dark Desires is the second book in this series that I have read, although it is number three in the series. Ryu and Ava meet on a plane, where Ava fights a losing battle with her thoughts about him. They are both on their way to Japan, where Ava will be working to try a find a way to prolong, or even create, health. This is personal for Ava as her father suffers from Parkinson's. Ryu is there to put an end to the research, because it isn't all above board. He has a job to do, but his feelings for Ava get in the way. As well as the current story, we also get Ryu's story from a series of flashbacks.
Now, I enjoyed this book, I did. However, I'm thinking maybe I prefer the Pure Ones to the Dark Ones, or maybe I just haven't read THE Dark Ones story that makes me go weak at the knees. Pure Healing blew me away whilst this one I enjoyed. Does that sound bad? It's not meant to. The story is excellent, although the climax is quite abrupt. The characters are likeable, with Ava not being afraid to speak her mind, which made an excellent change. The world-building is superb, and there are cameos from some of the Pure Ones too.
On the whole, this was an amazing read that I have no hesitation in recommending. It just didn't blow me out of the water like book one did.
Aja has been writing stories since the age of six, and novels since the age of thirteen. While she'd be the first to admit that those early efforts weren't particularly good, she sure loved putting them down on paper!
The best part of writing, according to Aja, is that it’s completely organic, the way the stories develop. When the inspiration hits, she writes just so she herself can learn where the characters are headed because oftentimes, they take her by surprise! It is her ultimate dream to share her stories with as many readers as she possibly can.
Her other loves include art, cooking, old movies (anything with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford, Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Clark Gable, and all the song and dance numbers because she can’t watch them and not be happy!)
She adores taking long walks with her husband and running after her two rambunctious kids. She has traveled extensively (all seven continents except Antarctica) and has a multi-cultural upbringing. She speaks two and a half languages and binge watch TV shows when the mood strikes.
Aja has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Comparative Literature and Economics and two Master’s degrees, one of which is in East Asian Studies.
