Second wind: a new strength or energy to continue something that is an effort. After an amicable divorce, Lincoln Huxley is ready to embrace the sexuality he repressed for more than two decades. Rush Holden is no longer willing to settle for closeted men or those who don’t share his dreams of marriage and fatherhood. A chance encounter on a lakeside pier is the second wind they both need. Or will it just be a painful reminder of all they had lost?

Second chance: an opportunity to try something again that failed one time. Rush and Lincoln have shared a lot of firsts—friendship, young love, and heartbreak. Cruel reality forced the two men to choose paths that took their lives in different directions. Twenty-six years later, they get a second chance to fall in love with each all over again. Can it really be that simple, or will the same issues ruin their happiness a second time?

Happily ever after: to live happily for the rest of one’s life. Rush and Lincoln know that love and life can’t be defined by words alone. Patience, commitment, and the determination to do whatever it takes will be the only way the two men achieve their happily ever after.

Second Wind is a funny, sexy, and endearing standalone romance novel about love, loss, and rediscovery. It contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adults 18 and older.

I suddenly felt an invisible pull to go to the pier and ride the damn thing. No, Rush wouldn’t be with me in person, but the memory of him would be. I walked the short distance and bought tickets for the Centennial Wheel. The pier was packed with families and friends just looking to have a good time and enjoy the beautiful June weather before the serious humidity hit later in the month.

I felt a little silly as I approached the long line by myself, but I passed the time by texting Phee and checking my email. The line had suddenly stopped advancing, and I wondered if the ride broke down or something. Then I heard the chatter about newlyweds posing for photos with the grand Ferris wheel in the background.

“Look how handsome the grooms look,” someone said.

“It so good that people don’t have to hide any longer,” another person added.

I stepped out of line to see for myself, and my heart thudded to a stop in my chest before it raced with recognition. It wasn’t the grooms that held me spellbound; it was the photographer. I’d know that stance anywhere because I sure as hell had seen it enough times growing up. The camera he held in his hand was a lot different and more expensive than the ones he used to own, but the way he stood and cradled it like a rare treasure was all the same. Rush! But how was this possible? My mind had to be playing tricks on me. This moment was nothing but a fantasy brought on by all the trips down memory lane I’d made the past twenty-four hours. I would wake up to find that I fell asleep in the hotel room instead of walking to the pier.

There was no way in hell that Rush, my Rush, was a few hundred feet away from me. It had to be someone who resembled him. The photographer turned around and smiled at something his assistant said to him. I started walking toward him without stopping to think if I should. For the first time in more than twenty-six years, my world felt right. My Rush.

It felt like I’d caught my second wind.

4 out of 5 (very good)

Second Wind is a feel good book, with plenty of sweetness, but without that sickly feeling you sometimes get with a sweetness overload.

Both men are wonderfully enough in their forties - which makes a nice change from twenty-somethings lol. However, through a series of memories, you find out about their youth, and the decisions they made, bringing you up to the current day. This is a complete story, without anything being missed out, but all necessary to the story.

This is a low-angst story that is very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The pacing was smooth, and all the characters were well fleshed out and completely believable. If you are looking for a sweet story about second chances, then I can definitely recommend this one.

REVIEW TOUR, EXCERPT & #GIVEAWAY - Pure Healing (Pure Ones #1) by Aja James

Paranormal, Fantasy, Romance

Enter the world of Pure Ones, a race of immortal, supernaturally powerful beings who protect humankind, where sexual intercourse with anyone other than one’s Eternal Mate leads to a slow, painful deathwithin thirty days.

The Healer of the race, Rain, is the only exception to this rule. To harness and accumulate enough energy to heal severe wounds, especially as the war between her people and the vampire hordes accelerates, she must take a Consort once every ten years and draw strength from his blood and body. But as the war wears on, few Pure-males who are strong enough to serve as her Consort remain. Valerius, Protector of the race, is the strongest candidate.

Despite their instant attraction ten years ago when they first met, Valerius has staunchly avoided applying to be the Healer’s Consort. The brutality and violence he suffered as a Roman sex slave in his human life ate away at his soul, leaving a dark abyss of torment and self-doubt.

Now, as Rain’s strength drains with every healing act, Valerius cannot escape the fact that he may be the only one who can save her, and in so doing, afford his people greater hope for the future as battles intensify.

Will Rain and Valerius find their way to each other as the struggles between good and evil evolve?

Rain bid farewell for the day to the third qualified Pure-male and watched him slowly and painstakingly make his way beyond the threshold of the Rite Enclosure.

She closed her eyes and released a pent up breath.  It had been a long second day in the three-day Rite of the Phoenix, a day she looked forward to only slightly less than the third and final day.  Today, she had pushed the males almost beyond their endurance.  She was surprised they hadn’t decided to withdraw their application.

The Phoenix Cycle would be much worse.

As she prepared to leave the chamber, Wan’er came forth with a nonplussed expression.

“My lady,” her handmaiden said haltingly, “it appears you have one final applicant.”

“What?” Rain responded reflexively.  She heard her handmaiden perfectly well, but the words didn’t make a lick of sense.

Wan’er shifted a bit nervously, as if indecisive about how to break some bad news.  “Your final applicant is waiting in the antechamber.” She bit her lower lip and blurted, “It is my lord Valerius.”

Rain’s eyebrows shot up in shock.  Surely she had not heard correctly.

“Shall I show him in and prepare him for the test?” Wan’er asked tentatively, uncertain of her lady’s mood.

Without answering her handmaiden, Rain marched angrily to the antechamber and threw apart the double doors.

“Just what do you think you’re doing?” she demanded of the warrior leaning against the back wall.  She braced herself against the welcome sight of him in full health.  She’d been on tender hooks all the previous day, wondering whether she’d been able to heal him completely, whether she should have checked on him.  She could barely concentrate on the first day’s tests, she’d been so distracted.  But now that he appeared fully recovered, her anger overrode all concern.

He straightened from the wall and stood tall and alert before her.  “Applying to Serve you, Healer.”

5 out of 5 (exceptional)

Pure Healing is the first book in the Pure Ones series. In a nutshell, it is about a vampire like species who hold honour in high esteem. They are unable to have sex with each other unless it is their true mate, but are quite conniving in finding ways around that little rule! ;) Valerius and Rain met ten years ago, but made sure their paths crossed as little as possible. Now, however, it is unavoidable.

This story will drag you in and not let go. Told in the first person for the first and last chapters, and then third person multiple point of view throughout the rest of the story, it will definitely keep you on your toes. You will also 'see' an amazing part of the world in this story, one that is too often neglected. The originality of this story, coupled with the amazing world-building, fantastic story-line, and brilliant characters, demand that this book be given the full five stars.

The writing itself is smooth, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. The pace was smooth, and the story action-packed. It is steamy in places, but only where it should be. Lots of other characters NEED to have their story told, so I can't wait for those. And I sincerely hope for a HEA for the whole of the Pure Ones. They have suffered losses in this book, and I don't like that! And yes, I know they're not real, but read the book and you'll understand where I'm coming from!

As a final comment, I will just say I'm definitely not Team Ere, but Team Dalair all the way!

Aja has been writing stories since the age of six, and novels since the age of thirteen. While she'd be the first to admit that those early efforts weren't particularly good, she sure loved putting them down on paper!
The best part of writing, according to Aja, is that it’s completely organic, the way the stories develop. When the inspiration hits, she writes just so she herself can learn where the characters are headed because oftentimes, they take her by surprise! It is her ultimate dream to share her stories with as many readers as she possibly can.

Her other loves include art, cooking, old movies (anything with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford, Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Clark Gable, and all the song and dance numbers because she can’t watch them and not be happy!)

She adores taking long walks with her husband and running after her two rambunctious kids. She has traveled extensively (all seven continents except Antarctica) and has a multi-cultural upbringing. She speaks two and a half languages and binge watch TV shows when the mood strikes.

Aja has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Comparative Literature and Economics and two Master’s degrees, one of which is in East Asian Studies.

Well where do I begin this book was absolutely flawless

The characters all went well together and I was hooked from the first page

The things that people will do to get there own way is unbelievable especially when you get into a bad crowd like Danny did he had a rough upbringing with his mother not being around and his dad making him feel worthless all the time he wanted to fit in so he got into a gang but to be in this “ family” he had to show that he was loyal to them and do something that he didn’t want to do. Danny was always looking over his shoulder due to his betrayal of the family he left he wanted the ones he loved to be safe but sometimes things don’t turn out that way and sometimes you have to pay the consequences in one way or another.

Gabriella she was quiet a ballet dancer she had her whole future ahead of her through dance until she moved to another neighbourhood after her dad had killed himself a coward as she called him but after being picked on at her school she found herself falling for Danny she wanted him to open up but he wouldn’t the walls were firmly up and they weren’t coming down no matter how she tried to tear them down.

There’s a lot to this book emotions anger tears laughing but there’s a lot of what’s going to happen next

I am giving this book 5/5 absolutely amazing read

Rhonda owes her love of reading to her mother who would read to her each night before bed and sometimes give into pleads for more than one chapter. These days, if Rhonda doesn’t have a book in her hands, it feels like something is missing. While romance is her true passion, Rhonda enjoys reading multiple genres.

Born in California, but transplanted to the Midwest, Rhonda is warm weather girl to the bone (even years later, winter and her are not on speaking terms) and loves nothing more than a balmy, summer evening. She also loves all animals–especially her silly French Bulldog, Keno.

Nowadays, she has so many characters and story ideas running around in her head that she can’t keep up with them. But one day, she’ll tell each one.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I struggled with this one. And here's why.

Aidan is, or has been, straight. Here, he is attracted to Christophe, who is gay. You'd expect a whole lotta more soul searching and questioning going on, but there isn't. Aidan just jumps almost straight away into bed with Christophe, after he first expresses his feeling for Aidan.

I know its only a short book, some 100 odd pages and you can only do so much in those pages, but I did not feel any sort of emotional attachment to Aidan, at all.

We also only get Aidan. Yes yes YES, I KNOW I say it often enough, but think I might have enjoyed it a little more had Christophe had a say too.

And, aside from that very first chapter, there isn't any hockey!

So, a nice book, but not one that grabbed me. An easy read, maybe a little too easy. Someone will LOVE this book, I have no doubt. And I might have at any other time, but it just landed in the queue at the wrong time.

Not my best review, but I'll plead illness and hope that someone will forgive me.

3 solid stars

Two Truths and a Lie by Daryl Devoré

If you love hot, billionaire romances, then this is a must read.

From the author of the Two Hearts One Love Trilogy, multi-published, hot romance author Daryl Devoré's latest book revolves around deceit, betrayal, passion and the theft of a multi-million-dollar, rare, red diamond.

As if multiple planes crashes, a car accident, and a concussion isn’t enough, carefree Byn and straight-lace billionaire, Mark struggle through Byn's need for independence and Mark's struggle with guilt pushing him in the opposite direction of love. When an art forger, an art thief and a ninety-year-old woman get involved the chance for true love for Byn and Mark fades.

All is lost until a children's game is their only hope.

All I had to do was steal a rare, red diamond. How hard could that be?

I followed the others into the Whittle Bus, took a seat and turned to look out the window. I didn't want a seat buddy. I didn't want a BFF – someone to giggle and bond with. I had a job to do. I had to keep my focus.

Especially if I wanted to live.

I stared blankly out the window, not seeing the city shift to country. Music blared from the bus's sound system. The driver turned the radio on an All 80s channel. Trying to block the music, I reviewed my evening. First, act like a meek female, not too competent or intelligent who doesn't speak English fluently. Second, pretend to be an acceptable server and deliver drinks to thirsty, rich people. Third, steal the red diamond.

Simple enough.

I didn't want the gem. Hmph, who was I kidding? I'd love to own it. But, a job's a job. I'd been commissioned to steal and deliver it to a secure box. And that's exactly what I intended to do.

Follow the tour and comment; the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. The tour dates can be found HERE

The authors will be awarding a digital copy of the book to 4 randomly drawn winners via rafflecopter during the tour.
