This was a sweet fast little read. The heroine was forced to make a hard choice, but I’m happy with the outcome of the story. It read well, provided some great suspense, and overall had a heartwarming tone to it.

Since this was a shorter read, the details and descriptions weren’t intense, but they were great enough to give you the needed picture, without drawing the scenes out. There was enough detail to make me giggle at certain parts and enough description not to wonder what the scenery looked like.

The characters were written well and their chemistry with each other was on par. There were equally a number of happy characters as angry characters. By that I mean, there were just as many characters to make you laugh as make you mad. It was a nice balance and kept the story flowing well.

If you’re looking for a pretty quick, easy, satisfying read, then grab yourself a copy.

RELEASE BLITZ, REVIEW & #GIVEAWAY - Resistance on Ice (Boys of Winter #2) by S.R. Grey

Title: Resistance on Ice
Series: Boys of Winter #2
Author: S.R. Grey
Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: April 10, 2017

Blurb

Praised by Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills as "the usual Grey crisp writing, lovable heroes that you kinda want to slap, and a heroine that doesn't back down," Resistance on Ice is another fun standalone novel in the Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

Hockey star Nolan Solvenson is nothing short of skilled perfection, both on and off the ice. Or so everyone thinks. His teammates are constantly hitting him up for advice, but really, when it comes to his own life, Nolan can't seem to make the right moves anymore.

Blame it all on Lainey Shelburne, a woman he wants but is determined to keep at arm’s length. That’s why, after a few sexy encounters, he unceremoniously blows her off.

When they’re reunited, facing off against the fiery cocktail waitress becomes the challenge of his life. Lainey is furious with him for dumping her and wants nothing more than to kick him in the junk. But Nolan—typical man—is only interested in getting Lainey back in his bed.

That plan is shot all to hell when they reach a shaky truce and Lainey drops the bomb that all she’s looking for now is a "just friends" relationship with Nolan.

Take that, Mr. Hot Right Winger!

Suddenly, the "know-it-all" athlete is skating on thin ice as he tries to hide his burgeoning feelings from the one woman who has the ability to thaw his heart. But is Lainey willing to try a relationship with him again? Can Nolan resist the urge to walk away?

Resistance on Ice is a fun standalone novel and the second installment in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

Excerpt

Scene set-up: Nolan is not happy about being interviewed by radio shock jock, Marty Quick, and there’s a good reason why….
Marty finishes up with his Stanley Cup questions, and goes straight to the place that had me dreading this interview in the first place.

“Let’s get to the good stuff, Solvenson,” he begins, grinning over at me like a perv. “Word on the street is you’re quite the ladies’ man.”

Looking down at the tiny table that separates me from the host in what has taken on the feel of a far too enclosed space, I run my hand through my dark hair. “I don’t know about that,” I reply. “Rumors are usually just that—rumors.”

He’s unconvinced, I can tell, but too bad. This is a question I plan to evade like my reputation depends on it. And it may. After I fucked things up with Lainey back in April, I was so distraught that I sought out solace in the form of a slew of strippers.

And I don’t mean I found comfort in being with a new one night after night.

Er, though I may have done some of that too.

“Aw, come on,” Marty continues in his patented taunting tone. “All of Canada—no, wait, all of North America wants an answer.” Shit, this show does have a far reach. “Is it true you banged ten strippers in one night?”

I laugh nervously. “No, no, that’s not true at all.”

It was actually nine and occurred over the course of two days, but who’s counting?

Not me. And not anyone else if I have anything to say about it. Besides, the only thing that matters is I’m not technically lying.

See, that’s my shtick in life—being clever, outwitting everyone. I’m a wise old sage at the age of twenty-six. My teammates call me things like “sensei” and “Yoda.” And, hey, I’m cool with that. Why wouldn’t I be? It works out great for me.

That’s why if I stick to the gray areas now with Marty, I can successfully evade giving him a straight answer for the next ten minutes, the time left in the interview.

Yeah, you’re real clever all right. So clever you outwitted your own damn self with the shit you pulled with Lainey.

“You look a little uneasy there,” Shock Jock observes when he sees me frowning. “You sure there’s not even a modicum of truth to that stripper story.”

“Yep, I’m sure,” I snap.

I need to get out of here, and fast. I’m done talking about strippers. And I’m done with this shitty interview. But most of all, I’m done with staying away from Lainey. It’s time we have a talk—a real talk.
And if talking doesn’t work, I’ll do what I do best—fuck her till she agrees to start seeing me again.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Ahh, a sweet, sexy, funny, full of angst Hockey romance book! I was in absolute heaven. My love and obsession for hockey books has really surfaced after having the ability to actually watch some hockey games locally.  It’s fun, it’s exhilarating, and incredibly exciting. Hockey players are anything but strong willed men who I only envision to be bossy, growly, and strong-willed.  This book definitely didn’t disappoint nor did it ruin my vision.

I will preface this with I have not read book one.  These are written to be stand alone books, and this one read just fine without having to have read book one. However, I will say, I think it would be good to have read book one. I only say that because book one features one of the couples talked about in the books and even references certain things that happen in book one. The author does a great job writing book two so you don’t feel left out so don’t take what I’ve just said as a complaint. I just personally prefer to read them all, even if they are stand-alone’s, if they belong in a series of sorts.

So, let’s talk about the meat and potatoes of the story. Oh my, it’s hot folks. It’s fun, it’s infuriating, it’s an absolute riot. Nolan met his match when he hooked up with Lainey. She would hold his hard captive until he pulled his head out of his rear. These two characters butted heads, they loved hard, and they were stubborn! Oh they were stubborn and it absolutely drove me nuts! It makes you want to just reach through the pages and lock them in a room and not let them out until they figured out what they wanted.

I applaud the author for the way that she wrote these characters.  The main characters and the supporting characters were written flawlessly. That doesn’t mean they didn’t have their own flaws or skeleton’s in the closet because that is what makes the books good. They had charisma; they had incredible relationships with each other. They make for an exciting read. Since I know they aren’t real people, naturally, the person we have to look at for writing such a great bunch of characters is the author. So thank you, you really wrote a great bunch of characters to read about.

So, do I recommend you to read this book? You betcha! In fact, go get yourself book 1 and then book 2. Settle down for a few hours with a nice drink of your choice, a snack, and be prepared for some great reading! You’ll thank me later.

REVIEW TOUR & #GIVEAWAY - Bitten By Design (Regent's Park Pack #2) by Annabelle Jacobs

Length: 80,000 words

When the last thing you want, is everything you need.

Seb Calloway isn't interested in shifters. After his best friend bonded with one, he avoids getting involved with them no matter how hot they are to prevent the same thing from happening to him. Why take the risk for a few hours of fun?

Tim Walters is the pack doctor. Considered to be mild-mannered and non-threatening by pack standards, he prides himself on being able to stay calm and maintain his control at all times. Desperate for a bond of his own, he knows his interest in Seb is an exercise in futility, but he can't seem to help himself.

When news emerges that threatens Seb's safety, he and Tim need to fake a relationship to keep Seb safe. Despite Seb's refusal to be anything other than friends with benefits, what starts out as pretend, quickly becomes more for Tim at least. If Tim doesn't want to end up heartbroken, he needs to prove to Seb that loving a shifter doesn't mean losing himself.

4 out of 5 (very good)

Bitten by Design is the second book in the Regent's Park Pack, and we reunite with Jared and Nathan although the focus is on Jared's friend, Seb, this time. The P-Pack is literally sniffing around Seb's door, and one night after a few too many drinks, Seb ends up being injured whilst the shifters scratch at his front door. Luckily for him, he is on the phone to Jared at the time, so help is swift to arrive. The Pack doctor, Tim, also makes an appearance. Although Tim likes Seb, he takes his job seriously, although he does take offence when Jared seems to say that he is incapable of protecting Seb. Seb likes Tim, but he doesn't want to be involved with shifters. He especially doesn't want to turn into one, or to bond with one. However, he is constantly sending out mixed signals to Tim, and is not stupid when it comes to precautions for his own safety.

The overall story arc continues with this book, and the tensions between Regent's Park and Primrose Hill are high. I loved the politics and manoeuvrings, plus the hierarchy of the Pack rules. It was also nice to see that there are 'good guys' in Primrose Hill, it's not just flat out bad. This makes it far more interesting to read.

Now, I have to say that I was wavering between a 3 or 4-star review for this book. My reason for this is simple. Although I loved Seb and Tim, even with all of Seb's mixed signals, something happened here that had irritated me slightly with book 1, but had me shaking my head with book 2. It was the 180` shift in the blink of an eye from being vehemently opposed to being with a shifter and having a bond, to bite me. There was no softening in Seb's attitude, although he was more than happy to get his rocks off with Tim. It is just the flick of a light switch, and all's good.

However, given the consistence of brilliant writing, the well turned out characters, and the intriguing plot, I have decided to give this book a 4-star rating. I thoroughly enjoyed both this book, and book one, and would definitely recommend them. Just mind the niggle!

Regent's Park Pack Series

Bitten By Mistake (Book #1) Amazon US | Amazon UK

4 out of 5 (very good)

Bitten by Mistake is the first series in the Regent's Park Pack series, set in London, England. It starts off with Jared on a night out, looking for some fun. He goes to a club where he is spotted by a shifter called Nathan. Jared makes it clear that, for his own reasons, he is not interested in being with a shifter. Nathan gets called away, and the story moves on. Skip forward and Nathan catches Jared, thinking he is someone else. He bites him, and due to his wounds, Jared goes unconscious.

This is a wonderful start to a series, which explores in more detail a wolf pack that doesn't actually spend every moment in wolf form. Instead, you learn how the wolf pack rules are invoked in human form, including all the new rules and regulations that packs must follow to stop just anyone getting bitten. Our two main characters change from not particularly liking each other, to being thoroughly bonded, to the extent that they do not like being physically apart from each other.

This was very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. There were a couple of moments that I would have liked a bit more 'history' on - why Jared was scent marked by the man in the club, and who he was. And also involving Jared, the shifter and circumstances from his past. You get the rough outline of the story, but not the nitty-gritty details. OK, so I guess neither of these would have a massive impact on the story, but you already know I'm nosy!

This book finishes nicely, whilst possibly leading onto a new romance with two other characters, which I am looking forward to reading. Definitely recommended by me.

A loud creak sounded from above. Her heartbeat picked up speed. Another creak. Footsteps? A light upstairs flashed on and cut a beam to the staircase wall. Bella’s ears perked at the same moment the slow rise of panic crawled through Rose’s veins.

Move. Move! Only she stood still, frozen in fear as her mind raced with images from vagrants to serial killers.

The dog emitted a guttural growl.

Slow creaks of the floorboards above magnified in the silent house. Rose stretched her trembling hand, snatched the leash off the table, and leaned over, just shy of snapping it on Bella so they could race like hell out the door.

Footsteps pounded. Fast and hard, they hit the staircase. Before she could grab the dog’s collar, Bella bolted.

Owooooo-woo-woo-woo-woo!

Bella’s howl echoed in the silent house. She stopped at the bottom step and stared fearlessly into the face of danger. Terror, however, had cemented Rose’s feet in place.

A dark-haired man reached the bottom, gripping a baseball bat in a ready-to-launch position over his shoulder. “Don’t move!” He stood at the last step, too close for her to make a quick dash out the door.

Rose’s heart pounded against her ribs and her mouth went dry. She raised her hands in the air. “Please. Don’t hurt me!”

The intruder blinked back at her through sleepy eyes. Thick tresses of messy hair jutted from his head. The rugged edges of an unshaven shadow highlighted his tight angled jaw. Her gaze traveled past his wrinkled, loosely buttoned plaid shirt, his baggy sweatpants, and stopped at his bare feet.

Bella bared her teeth, glaring at him bravely as he towered over the short basset hound. Her nose lifted and she inhaled a sharp breath. Owoooooooooooo! Owooooooooo!

The dog’s war cry got the stranger’s attention for a split second, but he quickly returned his narrowed gaze to Rose. “I don’t know who you are, but you’d better have a damn good reason for breaking into my house.”

Kieran and Joel have worked together for 4 years. They have each loved the other for the same amount of time but neither wanted to ruin what they had. But when both man get caught up in something that nearly costs them both their lives, all bets are off.

This sort of creeps up on you, and slaps you upside the head when you aren't looking! It starts off slow, and then rapidly increases speed till we are at rocket speed and I loved this book!

Its seemed only short, the some 125 pages, according to Goodreads, but Amazon tags it with 205 pages, but it packs a powerful punch. Both men have suffered, and both have learned the other soothes their soul. Joel won't sleep till Kieran is close by, and Kieran's nightmares are held back by Joel's simply telling him he's there. And this is BEFORE they get their act together and admit how they feel.

It does get a little.....messy, when Kieran gets caught snooping, and when they are talking about what happened the week before. That's why I've filed it as darker/grittier. Its painful reading, but only because of the subject matter, not how its written.

There is a cast of supporting characters whom I hope will appear in future books, not least Joel's dad and uncle. Oh and the doctor who helps them. OH!! the doctor and the uncle, now that would be great!!

I really don't care who appears in future books, I just want to read them.

I've read The Power of Zero books, one through three, and I loved them. This is on a par with them.

so, because it whoops you upside the head outta nowhere..

5 full stars

She's worked in a hospital and as the only girl with 52 men on an oil rig, spent a winter in Moscow and a summer in Iceland and finally settled in the country of her dreams with her dream team: a husband, a cat, a tandem, a hammer and a laptop.

Jackie loves stories about unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who don't follow the rules when those rules are stupid. She has a thing for green eyes and tight cyclist's butts and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.
