BLITZ & REVIEW - Before You Leave by Amelia J. Hunter

Add to Goodreads

Contemporary Romance

Tragedy strikes shortly before what should have been the happiest day of Julia’s life. The happy ever after she’d been dreaming of for as long as she could remember, is twisted, turning it into her living nightmare, in an accident that changes everything.

Despair. Solitude. Desolation.
This is her life now, submerged in the darkness of her depression and sheathed from the harsh reality waiting for her outside.

Before she can commit herself to the shadows completely, she’s brought back to life with the help of her best friend.

A new start, a holiday, and he unexpected arrival of Kieran mean it’s time for Julia to start living again. But, with the betrayal, untold secrets, and the pain of her grief holding her back, will she be able to move on and clean the slate of her history?

Will she learn how to enjoy life before it’s too late? Or will she let all the obstacles standing before her drag her back to the safe haven of anguish she knew so well.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I was gifted my copy of this book.

Just before her wedding, tragedy strikes and Julia falls into a dark place. Her friends drag her away for a holiday to help get over losing Ryan. Kieran comes to her rescue more than once, and when Julia is forced to remain on the island due to illness, he looks after her. Helps her, for Julia discovers that all was not as it seemed.

I began this book and was thinking, very quickly, I'm not gonna like it. It's first person, present tense AND single POV. BUT!!! I did like it, I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

You don't get the full reason for Julia's sorrow immediately, little bits are filtered through and I liked that. You don't get this full picture of Kieran, again, just little bits here and there. You don't even get the full story of Abigail all in one go but I guessed that one.

It is told from Julia's POV, and of course I would have liked to hear from Kieran, you know I much prefer multiple POV books but here? I think it was right and proper that just Julia had her say.

It is clean, which I also liked for this book. But it does need a little editing in places, silly little mistakes that while not affecting my reading or rating, I noticed enough to mention.

First I've read of this author, might not be the last.

4 solid stars
