VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR, REVIEW & #GIVEAWAY - Love For Sale by Linda Nightingale

Love For Sale

by Linda Nightingale

March Morgan still believes in true love, but her faith in finding her soul mate is slowly vanishing. She’s been married but never in love. So, it is a miracle to find that fantasy exists on the last page of a glossy women’s journal. Mayfair Electronics, Ltd., in black and white, offers Love for Sale. The London firm has engineered sentient androids indistinguishable from human. She flies to England and meets the man she has been searching for her entire life.

Christian requires no programming to love March at first sight. He’s handsome, cultured…absolutely perfect…and a little different from the other androids. He has an unexpected independent streak.

March signs on the dotted line, buying her dream man. They return to Houston, but soon her past and his future threaten their Happily Ever After—indeed their lives.

“Inane? I find you with another woman in the bedroom, and this conversation is silly? Oh, no, Christian. Did you invite her here?” Why couldn’t she stop hurting herself and let him go, lock the door and email Mayfair for a courier pickup?

Folding his arms across his chest, he leaned against the door. “She knocked. I answered and kept her outside until it started to rain. She was talking about the club and telling me, again, that I’d be a success as a male dancer. Being a success at something would be a bloody miracle. At any rate, half-jokingly, I asked her to teach me to dance. The End.”

“Not quite. Why did you slip her out behind my back?”

“I wished to avoid a scene like this.” His voice shaded deeper, darker. “And I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“There, it’s said. You can come back in now and stop pretending you’re leaving.” She waved a hand, half-heartedly beckoning. “You’ve got nowhere to go.”

He inhaled sharply as if she had punched him in the stomach. “I’m quite aware of that fact. I do not like seeing you this upset. Please call Mayfair tomorrow. I’ll voluntarily deactivate. They will dispatch a FedEx pickup for me.”

She raked a hand through her hair. “Oh, my God, what have you done and why? What have I done? Paradise Lost.”

“Why can’t you trust me?” His sad expression pierced her heart.

Nearly human. Though he didn’t have a heart, his emotions could be damaged.

“Because I don’t trust men.” An angry sob caught in her throat. When she could again speak, she croaked, “In general. Well, almost. I learned that lesson at my mother’s knee.”

“I’m not even almost any man.” He lifted his hands in a pleading gesture. “Return me to Mayfair for reprogramming. I don’t care. I only want to stay with you.”

“You have a funny way of showing it,” she said in a lethal whisper, her voice then rising in outrage. “If I’d been earlier or later, would I have found you bucking in bed?”

Looking stricken, he stood silent and straight, a bare-chested god with ice blue eyes.

4 out of 5 (very good)

I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions in return for a fair and honest review.

March has given up on the sweep you off your feet, flaming fireworks kind of love. She's been married, has two step-children, but isn't content so she asks for a divorce. Now, after a year alone, she wants more but without the hassle. So when she finds an advert in a magazine, it's IMPULSIVE in capital letters and who knows where this will lead her.

To start with, I must say that you have to suspend belief for this book. Whilst some of the innovations etc are going on, I'm sure, I'm not sure if they'd be allowed to do what they did in this book! That being said, if you want a book that is mainly romance but with a bit of a twist then I can definitely recommend this one.

If there was one 'down' side to the book for me, I'm afraid it was the ending. Now I love having everything tied up neatly, especially when it comes with a HEA, however this one just seemed... too neat. With everything that happened, I expected something else, not just a reprimand (albeit a physical one) for him and nothing for her. That sat a bit strange for me but I did thoroughly enjoy the rest of the book.

How I Made My First Sale

One of the topics suggested was Inside the Mind of an Author. Since no one would want to step inside my mind, as crowded as it is with characters, I’ll tell the long story of my journey to publication.

I began writing in the last century! In the 90s with a vampire book entitled Sinners’ Opera. Then called The Vampyre Effect, this first effort grew to a momentous size of 1,000 words. Needless to say, I had to perform a large operation on this book, eventually cutting it to about 250 pages. But that’s another story.

How I made my first sale was very odd.  One early Sunday morning when I lived on the bay in Miami, two characters woke me insisting that I tell their story—which was/is quite controversial—after I had been out on South Beach the night before. I was not happy about being dragged from bed at 6 AM. I always work on a computer, but I wrote most of Gemini Rising, originally titled His Brother’s Wife, on a legal pad in purple ink.

Due to the subject matter (which is forbidden by most publishers’ guidelines), I did not expect to ever see this book in print.  I had moved to Houston by the time Gemini Rising saw light again. An author friend suggested I send the book to her publisher, Double Dragon Publishing, a Canadian publisher. She said she would give me an introduction and a reference.  I jumped at the chance and emailed my misbegotten baby immediately. Two weeks later, I had a contract. Was I excited?  Oh yes! The book I expected to languish in my computer forever was my first sale. When first I held that paperback in my hand, I felt as if I were holding my child because each book is born from the imagination and effort, blood, sweat and tears of the writer. Interestingly enough, it is my best seller in the UK. At book signings, I usually sell a few of Gemini Rising. Here is the publisher’s website link if you’d like to read an excerpt.

The story of my first sale is quite short. Later, Double Dragon, fondly known as DDP, published the first book I wrote (way back there in the 90s), Sinners’ Opera; my Georgia Romance Writers’ Maggie winner, Cardinal Desires; and the sequel to Sinners’ Opera, Sinners’ Obsession.

This tour is for my sci-fi romance, Love For Sale, my first release from The Wild Rose Press. It began as an award-winning short story, then one day it grew! Soon, I will have another book released by The Wild Rose Press.  Gambler’s Choice is about the equestrian set. I enjoyed writing it as I once bred, trained, and showed Andalusian horses.
Linda Nightingale will be awarding a sterling Silver and genuine turquoise earrings valued at $45 as well as Author-signed swag (US/Canada ONLY, a international winner will receive a choice of one digital book of Linda's) to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

Follow the tour and comment; the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. The tour dates can be found here

Something of a gypsy (actually nothing quite so romantic!) born in South Carolina, Linda has lived in England, Canada, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta and Houston.  She’s seen a lot of this country from the windshield of a truck pulling a horse trailer, having bred, trained and showed Andalusian horses for many years.

Linda has won several writing awards, including the Georgia Romance Writers Magnolia Award.   She is the mother of two wonderful sons, a retired legal assistant, member of the Houston Symphony League, and enjoys events with her car club.  Among her favorite things are her snazzy black convertible and her parlor grand piano.  She loves to dress up and host formal dinner parties.
