Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I received a copy of this book from Xpress Tours in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This story was sweet and depressing. There were ups and downs throughout the story, with a pretty big downer as the beginning, the loss of Jack, Kate’s twin brother. Kate came back from her year in London to mourn and bury her brother. She reconnects with her best friend and ex-lover, Noah. There are definitely feelings still there but can they get back their history and past to move forward?

This story was a fairly quick read but an intriguing read at the same time. The story line flowed incredibly well and it was easy to keep up with what was going on. I’d say that the characters were developed well and the history of the characters were explained well enough to not need more of a back story. There is a cloud of mystery that surrounds a few of the characters and I definitely hope that the author expands on those characters in future books.

I appreciate that the author takes the time to express the grief that all parties are feeling towards the loss of Jack. The feelings are expressed well and seem to be relayed in a natural way with a natural feeling of healing and for some, the lack there of. I appreciated the way that she wrote Jared’s character in the book and the feelings he was dealing with after being in the car with Jack when he died. Rather than portraying him to be a “bad” person as she very well could have done, she made him a real person with real emotions unlike other books I have read.

This was an all-around good read and I think it would be a good story for you to pick up and read!

AUTHOR BIO:

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
