BLOG TOUR & #GIVEAWAY - The Vampire, the Hunter, and the Girl by Martin Lastrapes

Book & Author Details:

The Vampire, the Hunter, and the Girl by Martin Lastrapes
(The Vampire and the Hunter Trilogy #1)
Publication date: March 18th 2015
Genres: Adult, Horror, Paranormal

Adam and Jesus (the vampire and the hunter) have an innate antagonism, which is only heightened once they discover they’re competing for the affections of the same girl. Olivia (the girl) is an aspiring author struggling to write a vampire novel. What none of them yet know is there’s a menacing force looming that will change the course of their lives forever. With the first installment of The Vampire and the Hunter Trilogy, Martin Lastrapes has created a vampire tale that is scary, funny, thrilling, and satisfying to the very last drop.

Chapter One
The Vampire
Adam first sucked Olivia’s blood in the sandbox of Heritage Park, stopping briefly to yank the silver crucifix from her neck as it seared a red cross into the top of his hand.  Kneeled beneath the jungle gym with Olivia cradled in his arms, Adam buried his face into the nape of her neck, his fangs breaking the skin down to her throbbing carotid artery.  She moaned as he entered her, blood trickling down, pooling in the shallow dip of her clavicle.  Adam felt the air move as her eyelids fluttered shut.  He’d been waiting for this moment for so long, to feel her blood pulsing over his lips, delicious and warm.  His head spun, dizzy with satisfaction, the full moon overhead, flanked by an unmotivated flock of sparsely present stars.
Adam had watched Olivia from afar for weeks, biding his time.  He knew her routine, knew her schedule.  He knew when she worked at the strip club and when she worked at the bowling alley.  On this night, when Adam would finally pull the trigger, Olivia was working a late shift at the bowling alley.  Adam waited outside, amongst the darkness, watching as she exited through the sliding doors, finally done for the night.  She walked through the mostly empty parking lot, hurrying to her car, the sweet smell of fear lifting from her pores, like the sugary perfume of a pastry shop.
As Olivia passed him in the darkness, unaware of his presence, Adam engaged his amplified vampire senses, taking her in, smelling the coffee and donuts she’d had for breakfast, the veggie burger and fries she’d had for lunch, the shot of tequila she’d had an hour earlier to help get through her shift.  He could smell the hybrid odor of metal and gasoline from the pump, the offensive smell mingling with her sweet scent as she nervously ran her hand along her neck.  He could smell the heavy scent of smoke in her hair and the salty layer of dried perspiration on her skin.  He could hear her irritated throat, tender from yelling over loud music and drunken bowlers.
As she reached her car, he could hear the silent pulse of Olivia’s cell phone vibrating in her purse, quickening the beat of her heart, exasperating her already heightened state of anxiety.  He watched as she burrowed her hand through her purse, searching for her keys, cursing under her breath for not taking them out before she exited the bowling alley.  Only after she was in her car, doors locked, exhaling a relieved breath inside of her illusion of safety, did Olivia check her phone to see who’d called.  Pressing the phone to her ear, she listened to the voicemail.  Adam listened as well, lying belly-down atop the roof of her car.  “Hey Olivia, it’s Jesus.  Just checking to see if you wanted to grab something to eat.  Maybe we could watch a DVD or something.  I’m going to be up for a while, so call me back when you get this.  Later.”
Adam gripped the edges of her roof with his fingertips, his vampire strength holding him steady, no matter how fast she drove, how hard she turned.  Exiting the parking lot, Olivia cracked her window open, unwittingly giving Adam access to her delicious scent.

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Superstition by Lucy Fenton

Release Date: 08/03/15

Summary from Goodreads:
What happens when your childhood nightmares of being bitten by strange creatures in a dark wood aren’t just dreams?

Sixteen-year-old Arden St. John’s life takes a strange turn when she finds an unusual animal injured near her new house on the south east coast of Australia. When she takes it to the local vet, a terrible truth is inadvertently exposed to her.

She discovers a secret underworld, where witches are commonplace and trolls masquerade as queen bees, terrorising the other students with impunity. A world where vampires traffic in the lives of children, draining their bodies once they reach maturity. Where adults auction their own children to extend their lives.

Arden finds out she’s one of those kids, her life traded by the mother she never knew. Now she’s caught up in this ancient and corrupt economy operating just below the surface of modern society. She’s a hot commodity, and it’s only a matter of time before the vampire who bought her comes to claim his prize.

But Arden’s not going down without a fight.

The further into the bush she went, the more anxious Arden felt. If something happened to me, how long would it be before Dad noticed? I could be dead for days before someone found me, Arden thought, unhappily. The compulsion to turn around and seek out others grew stronger and her footsteps slowed.
And then through the trees, she saw something. Curiosity overcoming her disquiet, at first she thought it was a rocky outcrop and moved towards it, trying to see what was veiled by the leaves of the trees. The flash of sunlight whitened out her vision as she stepped out of the shade into the clearing. Blinded, she waited for her eyes to adjust. Squinting, the blurred shapes gradually resolved into the ruins of a stone building. The roof was gone and the walls stuck up like the blunt teeth of a fallen giant. Arden walked around what had once been a large structure that had been left to crumble back into the earth. It was built on a headland, the view of the ocean clear on the far side. A lone gum tree clung to the edge of the cliff, roots visible where the earth had crumbled away. Dead, its bare branches stood out starkly white against the dark clouds forming over the ocean. There was a storm coming in, but it was still a way out to sea. Catching sight of a marking on the stone, she moved towards it to examine it more closely. It was weathered almost flat, but tracing the rough gritty surface with her finger, she made out the distinctive shape of a convict arrow.
Amazed, she walked in through a doorway, trying to work out what type of building it had been. There had been a large central room with many tiny rooms opening from it. They were small, storerooms perhaps? Exploring deeper into the ruins, there was a room that had been more protected at the rear and the purpose became apparent. The stubbed remains of bars were still embedded in the stone in one section and in the corner of the room were cross hatched markings on the walls, counting off the days. She was standing in a convict gaol.

Not being one of those people who had a burning desire to be anything in particular, L. C. worked her way alphabetically backwards through the available degrees at Sydney University. BLOG TOUR: Stepping Stones (The Stone Series, #1) by Kacey Vanderkarr.

Summary from Goodreads:
Onnaleigh Moore is part of a plan—and it isn’t hers. When her brother dies in a car accident, Onna is desperate to preserve the tatters of her family. Any hope of finding normalcy vanishes when her mother runs off and her dad turns to booze to numb his pain. Onna’s grief is crippling, but the boy who showed up just when she needed him is helping her cope.

Everett’s presence is comforting, though he knows things—Onna’s name just before they met, where she lives, and sometimes he comments on thoughts she doesn’t say aloud. She pegs him for a stalker, or maybe psychic, but the truth is deadlier than she imagines. As their feelings for one another deepen, Everett confesses a horrifying secret: Onna’s brother is only the beginning of the plan, and some fates are worse than death.

Later that day, Onna plucked her phone off the bed and cradled it in her hands. She’d never considered how much of her life revolved around the tiny piece of plastic and metal.
Her father left, off to the funeral home to pick out a casket. She tried to go with him, but he refused to the point of yelling, so she let it go. She couldn’t imagine walking between the caskets, trailing her fingers over shiny silver and brushed brass, trying to find a perfect fit for Caleb. Would he want mahogany and gold? Lacquered black with silver accents? What about the interior, the satin where his skin would rest forever? White? Ivory? Open or closed? Maybe he wanted to be cremated.
Onna shuddered, relieved she hadn’t gone.
Unlocking her phone, she pressed the number three, waiting while speed dial connected. Her hand shook when she lifted the phone. It went straight to voicemail.
“It’s Caleb, you know what to do.”
She waited patiently for the beep. “It’s me,” she started, words hardly a whisper. “I—” she broke off, trying to arrange her thoughts into something that made sense. “I just…miss you.” She hung up and dialed again. One day, she knew a stranger would answer.
Biting her lip to ward off tears, she sat on the bed and pulled her knees up to her chest, trying to think of what Caleb would tell her to do. Life is for the living, Leelee, he’d say, or, I love you little sister, but it’s time to let me go. Or maybe, just think of how small my carbon footprint is, hardly a blip!
She smiled a little. That was exactly how Caleb thought.
Onna pushed a few buttons on her phone, stalling, knowing she would regret whatever came next. Then she dialed her mother’s number. It didn’t ring. Dead, crackling air, filled her ear and then a stranger’s voice, the one she feared from Caleb’s number, told her the number she was trying to reach was no longer in service. She disconnected, clutching the phone until her knuckles turned white.
A hot ache swelled in her belly, arcing upward to her throat. Onna pressed her mouth against the bony curve of her knee to stifle the screams, so hard that she drew blood, but the sounds kept coming, over and over, until her throat was raw. She was glad her father wasn’t home to hear it, that Hunter hadn’t seen her break down. She was on her own in this, determined not to let her dad see how devastated she felt. Someone had to take care of him.
Her hand vibrated, and she looked down, surprised to see her cell still clutched there. Everett’s name flashed on the screen, though Onna knew she hadn’t added his number. He must’ve done it sometime the day before.
E: Do you want me to come back?
She stared at the words, remembering how he knew where she lived, and how he told her his mother was dead. She should say no. Everett was a stranger, but twice now, he’d seen her cry. He bandaged her wounds and watched over her while she slept. His hands helped pull Cora from the burning car.
He’d helped her, but he’d also held her down. Maybe she couldn’t save Caleb, but she could’ve died trying.
Still, Onna couldn’t deny the bit of the warmth Everett created inside of her when everything else was frozen.
She sniffed and wiped away a tear. Maybe a stranger was exactly what she needed. She hit reply.
O: Yes.
