BOOK TOUR, REVIEW & #GIVEAWAY - Pepped Up and All Pepped Up by Ali Dean

Pepped Up (Pepper Jones #1)
by Ali Dean
Release Date: 08/25/13
238 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Pepper Jones is ready for an epic cross country season. She wants to qualify for Nationals, and she’s willing to do anything it takes to make it happen. She can handle long miles and hill sprints, but boys? That’s an entirely different challenge.

Pepper’s never considered revealing her deeper feelings for her longtime friend, Jace Wilder. After all, he’s got the personal magnetism and good looks to hook just about any girl in town -- and he has. Their friendship stands apart from high school social circles, and they’re both just fine with that (or at least they pretend to be).

That is, until running star Ryan Harding moves to town.

When it comes to running, Pepper’s goals are clear. But when it comes to Jace and Ryan, it’s nowhere near as simple.

All Pepped Up (Pepper Jones #2)
by Ali Dean
Release Date: 07/10/14
290 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
(This is the second book in the Pepper Jones series. The following description contains spoilers for Pepped Up, which should be read first.)

Pepper Jones knew that being Jace Wilder’s girlfriend wouldn’t be simple. But she didn’t predict just how many complications would arise from his past. Jealous girls? That she expected. Family secrets? Not so much. At least Pepper can always hit the trails to clear her head… except when it comes to racing. The high expectations from her phenomenal cross country season haunt her, and she can’t seem to get psyched up for track season. Pepper’s junior year at Brockton Public is full of challenges on and off the track, but she’s not afraid to face them.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I received these books from YA Bound Book Tours in return for fair and honest reviews.

Pepped Up (Pepper Jones Book 1)

Pepper Jones is a natural runner.  It’s the one thing that calms her down and brings her back to reality.  The new kid in town, Ryan, helps her see just how good she really can be.  Jace, Pepper’s best friend, stirs up Pepper and ignites feelings deep down that she doesn’t know how to handle.  He has been like a big brother her whole life but her feelings for him have crossed the line from brotherly love to a romantic type of love.

This is a sweet and fun read.  The author did a great job writing Pepper’s character.  She is shy and reserved but starts to come out of her shell as her feelings for Jace develop.  As you read through the book it is almost like you can see their relationship developing from friends to lovers as the author provides great description to make it easy to follow.  I loved that Pepper was the good girl and Jace was the bad boy.  These types of relationships are fun to read and keep the story going.  It opens up the possibilities how each character will develop and what they will do and will stop doing.

I appreciated the way that the author wrote the sex scenes.  There were implied scenes and there were sweet innocent scenes.  It’s nice to read books every now and again that don’t have so much detail regarding the bedroom activities but didn’t leave it out completely.  They are at the age where they are exploring the human body and the author did a tactful job writing these scenes.

I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.  There are so many possibilities as to how Jace and Pepper might or might not end up.  I definitely suggest picking up a copy of this book, you can’t go wrong here.

All Pepped Up (Pepper Jones Book 2)

Jace was a bad boy.  That was until Pepper asked him to stop selling drugs and doing drugs.  He wanted to change for Pepper and he wanted to be better.  He is still a wild party boy but legitimately tries to do better for Pepper.  When his mom shows up, it throws the dynamic off with him and Pepper and he is forced to admit one of his big truth’s to Pepper that he has been keeping from her for years.  Can Jace and Pepper withstand the pressure from the high school crowd?  Will they trust each other enough to overcome all odds against them?

I loved Jace starting about half way through book one. He didn’t have a great childhood growing up and his mom left when he was a baby. Reading about his life broke my heart.  The way that the author wrote Jace’s character and relationship with Pepper was written with such detail it was almost like you could feel exactly what Jace was feeling.  I was frustrated for Jace sometimes as you could feel the angst he was feeling and the war he was fighting internally.

I couldn’t put the book down. I couldn’t stop reading. There were times when I couldn’t stop laughing. Pepper is a funny girl at times and when she gets around her childhood friends she comes out of her shell and becomes incredibly loveable.  I think the author did a great job writing the second book and making you really develop stronger feelings towards Jace’s character.

I don’t think you will be disappointed in reading this book. It was a fun read and a sweet romance that is budding into something much stronger. I can’t wait to see what else happens!
