BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & #GIVEAWAY - Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown

Book & Author details:

Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown
Published by: Grand Central
Publication date: February 26th 2013
Genres: Adult, Suspense, Thriller

On a rainy Southern night, Jade Sperry endured a young woman’s worst nightmare at the hands of three local hell-raisers. Robbed of her youthful ideals and at the center of scandal and tragedy, Jade ran as far and as fast as she could. But she never forgot the sleepy “company town” where every man, woman, and child was dependent on one wealthy family. And she never forgot their spoiled son, who with his two friends changed her life forever. Someday, somehow, she’d return . . . exacting a just revenge, freeing herself from her enemies’ grasp, and, perhaps, fulfilling a lost promise of love.

4 out of 5 (very good)

I received this book from Xpresso Book Tours / NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review.

This is the story of Jade and what happens to her as a teenager and how it impacts her life as she grows up. Now, I've never lived in the South - whether that's the UK or the USA so I am taking as said that this is all correct. The attitudes in a small town though, can be the same, the world over. I won't go into too much detail as you have the synopsis for that, as well as other reviews if you want to check them out.

Suffice it to say that we have three main characters, one of which is detestable and the other two go along for the ride and come across as the weaker characters. Dillon, who is the male counterpart to Jade, has his own heartbreak to deal with and the majority of this book is spent with them separate and dealing with their issues.

You follow Jade's journey from when she is a teenager to when she makes her return to Palmetto. You follow some of Dillon's journey but not all of it. You really need to take note of the headings at the start of each chapter or you can get confused over where and when you are.

I would actually put this story in the genre of Drama rather than Romantic Suspense as it seemed like the main part of the story was about Jade and Dillon's lives and how they reach the point where they connect, rather than they meet at the beginning and it's a love story. This book is heartbreaking yet hopeful, devastating and yet full of love. Definitely recommended.
