RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 18 AND OVER DUE TO GRAPHIC VIOLENCE, STRONG LANGUAGE, AND SEXUAL SITUATIONS. To the moon and back… From the stars to the ocean… That was Marley and Cameron Bowen’s secret code. Twins born just five minutes apart, they have the perfect life… Until tragedy strikes just weeks after their eighth birthday and their father is killed by a drunk driver. Having trouble coping with the loss of her soul mate, their mother tries to find comfort in drugs and alcohol… And an abusive man with a penchant for underage girls. No longer able to stand listening to his sister’s screams and cries every night for nearly three years, Cam takes matters into his own hands and they’re finally able to escape the nightmare. They’re finally able to start over… But the nightmare still haunts Marley. The years go on and she is forced to put on a smile, making everyone think that she is the perfect, well-adjusted teenager that she is supposed to be… Until she is faced with a painful reminder of her past during her senior year of high school and she’s no longer able to keep on the mask that she has been compelled to wear. Heart Of Marley is a prequel novel to T.K. Leigh’s Heart of Light.
***** out of 5 (loved it)I received this book from Once Upon An Alpha as part of the blog tour in return for a fair and honest review.
This book is simply beautiful - it's about an ugly subject matter but the book itself is beautiful. The love between these siblings simply flows off the page and you are drawn into an emotional world from word one on page one. Be warned though - this book is an emotional rollercoaster in the best possible sense. Cam's constant strength and devotion to his twin and Marley's sense of fun and sarcastic wit after everything that she's been through will have you laughing out loud. "With every high comes a low" says Cam in the book so be prepared that the lows will have you sobbing into a tissue.
This story tells a tale of what it is like to try and rebuild your life after suffering prolonged abuse over years. You are with Marley every step of the way as she drags herself forward, taking a few steps back at times before going forward once more. She doesn't do it alone though, not only does she have Cam but she also finds her first love in Douglas. Cam also finds his first love in Brianna.
I won't go into any of the story as I do not want to spoil it for anyone but I will say that this is story is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. There is not a single scene in this book that isn't relevant to the story, that you would read and wonder why it was there. I will say though that I was sobbing from about 80% onwards so had to re-read the end to make sure I didn't miss anything. I haven't read Heart of Light yet but you can be 100% sure that I will be now.
Absolutely fantastic, highly recommended but with a 5-tissue warning!

T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Best Selling author of the Beautiful Mess series. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre.
When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
